Pro Bowl Safety Reunites With Cousin, Sparking Titans Family Affair

The Tennessee Titans added a familiar face to the organization Tuesday afternoon — not just for fans, but for their rookie quarterback as well. Veteran safety Quandre Diggs is signing with the Titans, reuniting with his cousin, No. 1 overall pick Cameron Ward, and forming a unique family tie on opposite sides of the ball in the Volunteer State.

Safety Quandre Diggs on why he signed with Tennessee Titans

Diggs, 32, “who played eight games for the Titans in 2024 before suffering a season-ending injury,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, returns to Tennessee to add depth and leadership to the safety room for the 2025 season. It’s a move that strengthens both sides of the ball: Diggs brings 10 years of NFL experience, while also forming an unexpected family tandem for the Titans.

Family Ties Run Deep in Tennessee

Their family bond was revealed back in March, when Diggs attended Ward’s Pro Day at the University of Miami and publicly acknowledged their relationship.

“He was bad as heck as a kid, a lot of good times. I used to push him around and stuff like that,” Diggs said, via Jim Wyatt, senior writer and editor for Titans.com. “He used to come to a lot of my games and support. We are a really close-knit family — we used to see each other every weekend, or at church, and things like that.”

Ironically, Diggs was asked at Ward’s Pro Day if the then-Miami quarterback had ever spoken to him about his experience with the Titans franchise — an intriguing moment, considering Ward was projected to go No. 1 overall to Tennessee.

“All year, it’s been the same thing all year — and I’ve been vouching for him since I got there, so that’s what has been cool about it,” Diggs said. “I told him that he would love it. I told him that this is a place that is seeking a good football team, and wants to go out there and compete.”

In April, Diggs also told ESPN’s Turron Davenport: “I’m a little older than Cam, but it’s always been a dream to play alongside him. I’ve had good conversations with them [Titans]. I know the coaching staff is legit, and being around them last year was fun.”

Who would have thought those comments would foreshadow a full-circle reunion in August? Diggs’ return strengthens a safety unit that includes Amani Hooker, Xavier Woods, Kevin Winston Jr., and Mike Brown.

Diggs Brings Veteran Edge to Titans’ Defense

In just eight games last season, Diggs totaled 42 tackles before suffering a Lisfranc fracture that ended his 2024 campaign. The three-time Pro Bowl safety enters his 11th NFL season looking to anchor a deep and versatile group in the back end.

In addition to acquiring Diggs, the Titans also signed Joshuah Bledsoe and waived edge rusher Titus Leo and defensive back Mark Perry, Wyatt announced.

The Titans open their 2025 campaign on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a preseason matchup on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The two teams will also hold a joint practice on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Buccaneers’ AdventHealth Training Center.

Tennessee looks to improve on its 3-14 record from last season, with the acquisition of Diggs to their secondary and his cousin Ward as the new signal caller under center.
