Puka Nacua Drops Explosive Comments About Brock Purdy's Contract Extension

Star quarterback Brock Purdy is angling for a big payday from the San Francisco 49ers despite coming off a disappointing season as they failed to advance to the playoffs.

But at the moment, the 49ers are not biting yet. The team and Purdy are still looking to find a middle ground that would be suitable for both sides. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan already expressed hope that the situation would not lead to a holdout by the 25-year-old Purdy.

The 49ers want to avoid another offseason drama after past instances with defensive end Nick Bosa, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and former wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua appeared on the “Games with Names” podcast of NFL legend Julian Edelman. They discussed various topics, including Purdy possibly getting a lucrative extension from San Francisco.

The 23-year-old Nacua, however, stated that he doesn't think that Purdy is worthy of a $50 million-plus contract, adding that mid-$40 million is more feasible. He also warned the 49ers about giving Purdy too much money.

“He seems like a smart guy," said Nacua. "They have a chance to still be in their (championship) window. I think if he goes for ($50 million-plus), then the window closes.”

Purdy, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2024, signed a four-year rookie deal worth $3.7 million, according to Spotrac.

Last season, he saw his numbers drop from the previous campaign, passing for 3,864 yards and 20 touchdowns. The 49ers finished with a lowly 6-11 record.

Nacua, meanwhile, missed their first six games due to a knee injury. He tallied 79 receptions for 990 yards and three touchdowns. The Rams had a 10-7 slate and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs.

According to a report from NBC Sports Bay Area, San Francisco general manager John Lynch expressed optimism that they would "find that right place" with Purdy before their offseason program begins.
