“It was amazing, man. Just for the guys to see my leadership, for the guys that trust me to be a leader, to trust in my voice, and to trust in the things I do every single day to help lead them in the right direction. Like I told the defensive linemen, the captain is just a title. Everyone has to be a captain in a certain way and a leader in a certain way because every day will not be perfect. But pushing each other in the right direction to get this team where we want to go is the main goal.”

Williams also discussed how he developed as a leader, stating that having “an unbelievable leadership group” and “a lot of leader veterans” has helped him become one of the team’s prominent leaders.

It is impressive to see how Williams developed into one of the stars of the team’s defense. In an era of mediocre and poor Jets football, the defensive tackle has been a bright spot for his entire career. Whether through his off-field attitude or his dominant play at defensive tackle, Williams has represented the Jets in a positive fashion for years on end.

As a result, Williams has earned the captain role. He will now look to lead the Jets to their first season of playoff football in over a decade, which starts Monday night against the 49ers.
