The Boston designated hitter blasted a walk-off home run for the first time in his career. The desperately needed win brought the Red Sox back from a 5-0 deficit.

FOX had the television broadcast on Saturday night. Over on the Red Sox radio broadcast on WEEI, Will Flemming and NESN analyst Lenny DiNardo perfectly set up the swing from Devers’ at-bat against Atlanta reliever Pierce Johnson.

“You know what’s coming right here,” DiNardo said on the broadcast. “We talked about the 71% curveball rate. Now, you’re just waiting for him to hang one down the middle. Put a charge into it.”

“Just put it into the universe, Lenny,” Flemming replied.

On that ensuing pitch, Devers did indeed get a hanging curveball from Johnson and did not miss it. The Red Sox designated hitter smashed his eighth home run of the season, and a signature regular-season blast of his career.
