The Red Sox used their 13th round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft on a local kid.
Boston selected 22-year-old third baseman Jack Winnay 388th overall out of Wake Forest. He’s from Newton and graduated from Belmont Hill School in Belmont.
“We’ve known him for a long time, and I think he was a guy that even last year we had some draft interest in,” director of amateur scouting Devin Pearson said. “And just being able to get him this year when we did, we’re super excited. He wanted to be a Red Sox. We wanted him here and it worked out that way. So a fit for both sides.”
He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds and showed big power in his final two years at Wake. He hit zero home runs in 16 games (26 plate appearances) as a freshman in 2023. He then crushed 35 homers in 119 games as a sophomore and junior.
He hit 20 home runs in 59 games in 2024 and 15 in 60 games in 2025.
Overall, he batted .293 with a .406 on-base percentage, .593 slugging percentage, .999 OPS. He added 31 doubles, two triples, 124 RBIs, 111 runs, 77 walks and 115 strikeouts in 135 games (576 plate appearances).
He also played summer ball for the Vermont Lake Monsters in 2023.
He made starts at both corner infield positions and both corner outfield spots at Wake.
