The Boston Red Sox had some major struggles defensively in 2024. They led the American League in errors for the second consecutive season. That doesn’t mean they didn’t have impact players with the glove, which came to fruition Sunday night.
Rawlings announced that Boston right fielder Wilyer Abreu won the 2024 Gold Glove award for right field. He beat out New York Yankees star Juan Soto and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell.
Abreu joins catcher Carlton Fisk and outfielder Fred Lynn as the only Red Sox rookies to win the award, according to Red Sox senior manager of media relations and baseball information J.P. Long.
Alex Cora raved about Abreu’s defense throughout the 2024 and led the belief that the 25-year-old would find himself taking home a Gold Glove.
Good call from Cora.
