Red Sox Receive Great News On Injured Starting Pitcher

The Boston Red Sox seemingly avoided a major setback with one of their (many) rehabbing veterans.

Kutter Crawford, who has been on the injured list since the start of the season with right patellar tendinopathy, was scratched from beginning a rehab assignment before his wrist began giving him trouble. Boston wanted to get it checked right away, so the organization sent him to see a specialist and somewhat suprisingly received good news.

Crawford’s wrist is just sore, with scans showing zero evidence of structural damage,

“It’s up to him now as (far as) tolerance,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday, per Christopher Smith of MassLive. “No live (batting practice) scheduled. Just a bullpen and we’ll know more over the weekend.”

The Red Sox desperately need some help in the rotation, as their collective ERA bumped up to 4.00 on Friday. Can you imagine what it would be without the best pitcher in the American League?

Crawford’s eventual rehab assignment will pave the way for his return to the staff, and whether it comes as a starter or in a long-relief role, that’s something worth celebrating for Boston.
