The Boston Red Sox have played 13 spring training games, which has given them a glimpse of their players' abilities. While competition for third base remains a focus, the outfield has taken a backseat.
However, the Red Sox are looking to add help in that area. According to Sean McAdam of Masslive.com, the Red Sox are looking for help in the outfield.
"It's not a major or critical need for now, but according to an industry source, the Red Sox have let other teams know that they're in the market for additional outfield depth - especially the right-handed-hitting variety."
Uncertainty surrounding their current depth is part of the reason for this need. The Red Sox have a starting trio of Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Wilyer Abreu. Rob Refsnyder is the primary backup, but there isn't much depth beyond him.
At the start of spring training, the Red Sox signed Trayce Thompson. Despite a solid showing, they are still searching for more outfield depth.
While the farm system has outfield talent, the organization needs reinforcements at the Major League level.
Masataka Yoshida is expected to be a full-time designated hitter. Abreu is dealing with a gastrointestinal virus that could keep him out of the Opening Day lineup. Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony are unlikely to start the 2025 season with the Red Sox.
Some outfielders may become available as teams trim their rosters to 26 players. The Red Sox are expected to be making calls for Major League-ready outfielders.
