In an article from Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald , the Red Sox still determines who the starting second baseman will be for Opening Day. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he hasn't decided on the starting second baseman.

With the job up for grabs, the potential starters at second base are three players. Vaughn Grissom, David Hamilton, or Kristian Campbell are the potential starters at second base named by Cerullo.

During spring training, Hamilton has performed the best at the plate, hitting for a .270 batting average. Grissom is hitting .200, while Campbell is hitting .152. But according to Cerullo, Cora wasn't overly concerned about their Spring Training performances.

"They've played well, the 0 for 20, the 10 for 20 doesn't come into the equation." Cora also acknowledged Hamilton's performance, "One thing for sure, (Hamilton) has played well, really well."

Hitting isn't the only factor, as defense is crucial in evaluating the starting second baseman. Each potential starter has played well in their chances in the field.

The Red Sox starting second baseman spot is up for grabs, and while Hamilton seems to be in the lead, he doesn't have the job secured. Cora will consider a combination of defense, hitting, and even which side of the plate they bat from.

Cora said that he feels comfortable with the Red Sox second baseman spot, "I think there's certain things that will dictate what we do with the roster, but we feel comfortable."

The Red Sox opening day is March 27th against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
