Red Sox’s Injury-Prone All-Star Stays Red-Hot in Spring Training

The Boston Red Sox have just one infielder who has combined for at least 60 home runs and stolen bases in a single season - and it's not Rafael Devers or Alex Bregman.

Trevor Story accomplished that feat in both 2018 and 2019 with the Colorado Rockies, earning All-Star nods and Silver Slugger Awards each year. His blend of power and speed made him one of the most dynamic shortstops in baseball during that stretch.

Trevor Story has hit two home runs today, both over the monster.

He is hitting .474 with a 1.447 OPS in 7 games this spring.

Hoping to bring that production to Boston, the Red Sox signed Story to a six-year, $140 million contract in 2022. In return, they've endured three injury-plagued seasons from their marquee middle infielder. However, for what feels like the first time in his Red Sox tenure, Story is healthy this spring - and absolutely raking.

Friday's spring training game against the Miami Marlins offered a glimpse of what Story can still bring to the table. He erupted for a 3-for-4 performance, launching two home runs, driving in three runs, and crossing the plate three times.

Through seven games this spring, the 31-year-old is slashing a blistering .476/.500/.905 with a hit in six of those contests. Three of those games have included multi-hit efforts.

A fully healthy Story could be a game-changer for Boston's offense. His track record speaks for itself - whenever he's played at least 97 games in a season, he's hit no fewer than 24 home runs. That type of pop in the lineup is something the Red Sox have sorely missed from their middle infield.

Story wasn't the only one who put on a show in Friday's 20-5 rout of the Marlins at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. Boston erupted for six home runs, including one from Bregman in the third inning. If Story continues at this pace and stays healthy, he could quickly become one of the biggest bounce-back stories of the 2025 MLB season.
