The Red Sox seem to be in a good place after Rafael Devers met with the club’s top brass in Kansas City on May 9.

Red Sox's Sam Kennedy Opens Up About Rafael Devers Meeting

Boston president and CEO Sam Kennedy, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and owner John Henry met with Devers following his comments about potentially moving to first base. Breslow and Devers felt it was a productive meeting, and all sides were on the same page about what needed to be done. Kennedy offered his perspective on the meeting.

“It was a really good trip,” Kennedy said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Thursday. “The purpose was to go out and make sure we had a chance to visit with different members of the team and staff and just reinforce the expectations from the very, very top of the organization. It was John Henry’s idea to go out there and have a few different conversations, which we’ll keep internal. It was a very clear, candid message about our expectations, about our commitment to winning, and it was a really good visit. And I’m glad we did it. It was a very important point in the season, albeit early. We have an extreme sense of urgency over the last couple decades around winning, and I just wanted to express that message to players. And we had several good conversations.”

Kennedy noted that the Red Sox would do what was best for the team and players when it came to a Devers position change. The All-Star found his stride after a slow start and adjusted well to his role as designated hitter.

Kristian Campbell tested out first base last week, and it seems like the Red Sox will trend toward that direction to get the best out of their lineup.
