Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian Buys Stake in Chelsea Women, Joins Board

Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband to tennis legend Serena Williams, has officially joined the Women’s Super League powerhouse Chelsea as an investor and board member.

Taking to X on Wednesday, Ohanian declared:
I’ve bet big on women’s sports before — and I’m doing it again. I’m proud to announce that I’m joining Chelsea Women as an investor and board member. I’m honored for the chance to help this iconic club become America’s favourite WSL team and much, much more.”

According to a source via Reuters, Ohanian has acquired a 10 percent stake in Chelsea Women, investing £20 million ($26.5 million)valuing the club at around £200 million.

No stranger to women’s sports, the 42-year-old tech entrepreneur previously played a key role in launching Angel City FC in 2020 and was its largest shareholder before the club was sold for $250 million in 2024. He also founded Athlos NYC, a female-only track and field event where the winners each took home $60,000 at its debut last September.

Per The Times, Ohanian and Serena Williams are expected to attend Sunday’s FA Cup final at Wembley, where Chelsea will face Manchester United.

Chelsea’s women’s team was officially transferred from Chelsea FC Holdings Limited to Todd Boehly’s BlueCo consortium in June 2023, in a deal worth nearly £198.7 million. That transition also marked a strategic shift, with Aki Mandhar appointed as the club’s first dedicated CEO.

The move comes just after Chelsea Women capped off a record-setting campaign: they clinched a sixth straight WSL title earlier this month, finished the league season unbeaten, won the League Cup in March, and reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League, falling to reigning champions Barcelona.
