A release date for second season of The Last of Us, starring Bella Ramsey, has been teased by show runners. The Emmy-winning drama's second season is highly anticipated by fans and will see a number of top guest stars.
The acclaimed HBO/Sky drama is based on the video game franchise of the same name and follows Ellie and Joel as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world. The second season takes place five years after the events of the first season and sees Bella, who studied acting at Loughborough’s Stagecoach Theatre, return as Ellie alongside Pedro Pascal as Joel. The pair will be “drawn into conflict with each other” in a world that is “even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind” according to show bosses.
The new season is based on the first game’s sequel, The Last Of Us Part II, which sees Ellie and Joel right at home in the Wyoming settlement founded by Joel’s brother. Despite the safety of this haven, the world continues to be ravaged by the Cordyceps infection ravaging the globe.
However, when a vengeful figure from Joel’s past arrives, the two are back in a fight for survival. The first season of the show won eight Primetime Emmy Awards, and fans old and new praised Pascal and Ramsey’s portrayals.
Alongside the returns of Bella and Pedro, Gabriel Luna is back as Tommy and Rutina Wesley returns as Maria. Guest stars for season two include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Home Alone's Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in an as of yet unnamed role.
Sky have confirmed that The Last of Us will return this April, with a new trailer teasing the drama ahead. An exact realease date has yet to be confirmed.
