Report: Detroit Lions Sign Veteran Quarterback

The Detroit Lions are making some final moves before the start of the 2024 NFL regular season. The team recently experienced an injury to their quarterback Hendon Hooker, who suffered a concussion during the preseason. While it may not be as important as the starting job, the backup quarterback position is crucial to a team’s roster in case the starter suffers an injury. Detroit has signed a veteran quarterback to fill in the position for Hooker while he is out with an injury.

Detroit Lions Sign Quarterback

The Lions have signed veteran quarterback Jake Fromm to add depth to the position after the injury to Hooker. According to head coach Dan Campbell, the team believes that Fromm can learn the scheme of the offense quickly.

We felt like he’s going to be able to pick up the offense pretty fast, enough to be able to go out and help us if need be.

The signing comes from the team not wanting to play either starter Jared Goff or third-stringer Nate Sudfeld in the preseason.

Fromm was drafted by the Buffalo Bills back in 2020, started two games for the New York Giants , and was released by the Washington Commanders a few months ago. Campbell seems to be high on the veteran quarterback as he showed in a recent press conference.

We needed somebody we felt like could work in the pocket and he was fortunately available. He had a workout, looked pretty good, so we’ll see where it goes.

In his career, the quarterback has amounted to 210 passing yards and a touchdown going for 27-60 on his attempts. While Fromm has not experienced a lot of playing time in his career, Detroit seems like they are confident in his ability to play snaps under center if need be.

How do you think the Lions will do this season coming off of a great 2023-2024 campaign?
