Report: MRI reveals good news for 49ers kicker Matthew Wright

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't provide an update on kicker Matthew Wright's injury during his Friday afternoon conference call with reporters, as the team was still awaiting MRI results.

Report: MRI reveals good news for 49ers kicker Matthew Wright

"He did dislocate it—or it came out for a little bit," Shanahan explained. "... It went back in, but we've got to find out more on it when we get the MRI."

Shanahan wasn't sure if Wright would be able to play in the 49ers' Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that Wright's MRI returned negative, and the kicker is expected to be ready for the Super Bowl rematch.

"This means San Francisco is not expected to now have to use three kickers in three games," Schefter added.

San Francisco signed Wright this week to fill in for injured kicker Jake Moody, who suffered a high-ankle sprain in last Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Wright sustained his own injury while making a tackle during a kickoff return against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night.

The 49ers had been prepared to bring in additional kickers next week for tryouts if Wright's injury proved more serious. Fortunately, that won't be necessary.
