Report: San Francisco 49ers Reveal Injured RB Christian McCaffrey’s (Achilles) Game Designation Against Jets

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey has an injury

McCaffrey has missed a lot of the preseason due to a calf injury. The injury was especially concerning at the time because wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had not agreed to a contract extension when news of McCaffrey’s injury broke.

McCaffrey is arguably the best weapon on the 49ers offense. Last season, he ran for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns. He added 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns in the passing game.

49ers reveal game designations on Friday’s injury report

Per the 49ers website, head coach Kyle Shanahan designated McCaffrey and offensive guard Aaron Banks as questionable to play the Jets. on Friday’s injury report:

The San Francisco 49ers have a few question marks heading into their Week 1 “Monday Night Football” matchup versus the New York Jets. Following the team’s final practice of the week, head coach Kyle Shanahan listed running back Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) and guard Aaron Banks (finger) as questionable heading into the season opener.

While both have not been fully cleared for game action as of now, Banks and McCaffrey were limited participants in all three of the team’s workouts this week.

The good news for the 49ers is that has been able to practice this week, even if it was limited.

The 49ers don’t want to push McCaffrey to return to the field prematurely in the early season and make the injury a long-term problem. The 49ers have postseason aspirations, and losing McCaffrey against the Jets in Week 1 could derail those hopes.
