For most, the New York Jets' season is over after their 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, which dropped Jeff Ulbrich's team to 3-7 on the year.
With the 8-2 Buffalo Bills running away with the division, the Jets' only hope is a late-season run to clinch a Wildcard berth, but in truth, that looks extremely unlikely as things stand.
Given there is still so much football left to be played this season, for a team that in preseason, was thought of as a potential Super Bowl contender, to be nearly knocked out of playoff contention in early November, that is a big fall from grace.
Aaron Rodgers, who was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show, revealed that the franchise has been forced to eat humble pie this season but also stated that there is still hope that the team can make a run.
"Focus stays the same, got to handle it with humility," Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show in how he approaches the rest of the year. "Been a lot of pies to be eaten around here, flavored humble. But you got to hold onto the beautiful thing in life called hope, that there's a chance. We're not mathematically eliminated, there's a lot to play for. At the end of the day, one thing we can play for whether we're 10-0 or 3-7, is pride."
While Rodgers is clinging to hope, for the rest of the NFL world, the Jets are done for the 2024 season. Stick a fork in them; it's over.
Rodgers leads an offense that averages just 17.7 points per game (ranks 26th), and against the Cardinals, both he and Davante Adams again questioned the team's energy, which has been a hot discussion topic over the last month.
With their season on the line in Arizona, the Jets "didn't come out with great energy," according to Rodgers, and we ask if a team can't get up emotionally for a game, when will they?
Rodgers is clinging to hope, and while the Jets aren't mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, you will be hard-pressed to find a person who is positive about their hopes of punching their ticket to the postseason.
But if nothing else, the Jets have hope, so at least that's something, right?
