Romeo Doubs’ future just became way more obvious after Aaron Rodgers move

It's inevitable Romeo finds his Juliet.

The Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room keeps evolving, but there’s one name still lingering in the middle of trade speculation: Romeo Doubs. His role in Green Bay’s offense looks semi-stable on the surface, but between a deep receiver group, contract timing, and a familiar face popping up in Pittsburgh, things could shift very quickly.

Aaron Rodgers officially signed with the Steelers on Thursday. It didn’t take long for the “Rodgers reunion” talk to fire up, and Doubs’ name is already making the rounds. While it wasn’t a long partnership, Rodgers had a clear appreciation for Doubs’ skills during their 2022 season together — from back-shoulder throws to clutch red zone moments.

Now that Rodgers has a one-year window in Pittsburgh, the potential for a trade becomes more realistic than speculative.

Romeo Doubs trade buzz could grow louder with Rodgers now in Pittsburgh

Doubs has had a solid start to his NFL career. Over three seasons, he’s produced over 1,700 yards and 15 total touchdowns, often serving as a reliable red zone option and contested catch target. He led all Packers in receiving yards during their 2023 playoff run and continues to show growth in camp this offseason.

But Doubs is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and Green Bay just spent two premium draft picks on receivers. Jayden Reed is emerging as the WR1. Christian Watson, despite his health questions, still holds upside. Matthew Golden was a first-round pick for a reason. Savion Williams, a third-rounder, adds even more size and competition to the mix.

There’s also the matter of Doubs’ 2024 suspension and whether the Packers feel confident about extending him or not. If the answer is no, moving him for mid-round capital while his value is solid might be their best leverage — especially if the Steelers come calling with Rodgers pushing behind the scenes.

Rodgers will have DK Metcalf as a new weapon in Pittsburgh, and if Allen Lazard or Nathaniel Hackett somehow end up there too, it won’t be a surprise. The breadcrumbs are already leaving their trails, and Doubs fits that mold — dependable, trusted, and experienced (although limited) with Rodgers.

Whether the Pack want to admit it or not, the trade window has just been cracked wide open. And if Rodgers wants one of “his guys” to help elevate the Steelers’ offense —history suggests he does — Doubs might be the next name off Green Bay’s roster.
