The 2024 NBA Draft is only a couple of days away, and the Dallas Mavericks will make some type of move as they have the final pick of the draft, the No. 58 overall pick.
Dallas has been linked to Bronny James, and whether they draft someone or trade the pick, the Mavs have the opportunity to get better soon following their disappointing five-game loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals.
Dallas overachieved, considering they were a five seed and no one expected them to make the Finals, and now they have the chance to reload their roster around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to contend for a title again next year.
Tim Hardaway Jr. is frustrated with his 'role and future' with Mavericks
One of the first moves Dallas can make to help them improve their roster is by trading Tim Hardaway Jr. The Mavs are reportedly looking to trade Hardaway Jr. following his disappearing act during the second half of the season, and Hardaway Jr. seems ready to get out of Dallas too according to a recent rumor.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Hardaway Jr. "became a non-factor in the playoffs, leading to frustration over his role and future in Dallas." Hardaway Jr. had a solid regular season for the Mavs, but his performance during the second half of the season and playoffs became a problem.
He was inconsistent and lacked the same confidence he once had, and him falling out of Jason Kidd's rotation at times during the playoffs seems to have frustrated him and made him question his future with the franchise.
Hardaway Jr. has been in trade rumors for multiple seasons, and him likely being on the move shouldn't surprise him, and it may be best for both sides for him to get a fresh start. Days before the new Hardaway Jr. trade rumors dropped, Hardaway Jr.'s father, Tim Hardaway Sr., seemingly guaranteed that the Mavs would move his son this summer.
The Hardaway Jr. situation in Dallas has been a mess for some time now, and it may be best for the Mavs to move on and send him elsewhere considering that he reportedly isn't happy with his role or future with the team. He was unplayable during the playoffs, and he didn't play well when Dallas needed him most.
