Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers scored a massive divisional win on Sunday, outlasting Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Both quarterbacks were outstanding throughout the game, with Wilson throwing for 414 yards, three touchdowns and one interception and Burrow matching him with 309 yards, three touchdowns and one pick as well. The Steelers led by as many as 17 before hanging on for the 44-38 victory.
At 9-3 on the season and in first place in the AFC North, the Steelers are going in the opposite direction of the Bengals, who fell to 4-8 in what has been a nightmare campaign. Burrow has played brilliantly all year however, and the former No. 1 overall pick earned some brief words of encouragement from Wilson after the game.
Footage of the two shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries has been trending on social media.
"Keep going baby," Wilson told Burrow.
This season has to be frustrating for Burrow, who is playing at a near-MVP level but has been let down repeatedly by his defense.
As for Wilson, the last six games have been a resurgence for the nine-time Pro Bowler. After missing the first six contests with an injury, Wilson has played excellent football since returning, completing 65.8% of his passes and throwing for 1,626 yards, 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
Most importantly, Pittsburgh is 5-1 in his starts, an upset loss to the Browns in the snow in Cleveland being the lone blemish.
The Steelers have a rematch with the Browns this coming Sunday before a Keystone State showdown in Week 15. Pittsburgh travels to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the 10-2 Philadelphia Eagles in a matchup of two of the league's best.
After that, the Steelers will close out the year facing the Ravens, Chiefs and Bengals, so there are no easy outs left on the schedule.
Whatever standing Wilson and his teammates get for the playoffs, they will have earned it.
