Russell Wilson revealed that he has all of the Steelers games on his calendar circled, plus a few more after the regular season.
On Saturday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson pulled up to Damar Hamlin’s celebrity basketball game at North Allegheny High School. It ended with Hamlin hitting a dirty stepback three, which Wilson conveniently filmed. But with all the players who showed up, there was media attention.
Wilson had a brief interview with Prospect Media and was asked which games he looked forward to on the Steelers; schedule. The obvious answer would be the revenge game against Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos, but Wilson took the media-savvy route instead.
“All 17 plus three or four,” Wilson said.
That is the cordial response from Russell Wilson. He has made it no secret that he has high expectations for what his Steelers tenure will bring him. Wilson remains in ‘pole position’ and reportedly has a no-trade clause in his contract. But so far, he has taken on the role of starter and mentor to Justin Fields quite well. Wilson has helped Fields, whom he has long been friends with, in hopes that Fields can revive his career after flaming out in Chicago.
“It’s been great just learning from him every day,” Fields said. “Just how detailed he is with everything. Just how he works. Everything he does. The way he acts around his teammates. He’s been great. A great teammate to me. A great mentor to me so it is awesome to have a guy like Russell in the room. You get to learn from him and kind of pick his brain on some stuff.”
Wilson’s looking to be the key cog to end the Steelers’ eight-year playoff win drought. The team has added talent around him on both sides of the ball, but Wilson is hoping not only to win the starting job, but also to carry the Steelers to places they have not been since the Killer B’s era.
