Pittsburgh Steelers players are getting in some last-minute work before they depart to Latrobe for training camp, which is less than two weeks away.
While Justin Fields was throwing passes to George Pickens at the Elite Week event in Texas on Thursday, Russell Wilson was getting in work with Najee Harris at UCLA.
Wilson posted photos on his Instagram account of himself and Harris training together. Wilson captioned the post, “Blacked out.”
Two weeks ago, Wilson had a workout session at UCLA with former teammate Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.
In the video provided by Wilson’s fitness trainer John Shackleton, Wilson was dropping some of his vintage moon balls to Metcalf. Of course, it was just routes on air, but Wilson’s arm strength looked impressive. He was throwing some dimes.
“Crazy watching @DangeRussWilson & @dkm14 train this morning! 6 am! Connection Special! @NFL John Ursua is smooth too! #GreatnessIsaHabit #MoonBalls,” Shackleton wrote.
Wilson has also got in some boxing training this offseason.
“Back in the Ring. Started in 2018 through 2020. Had some of my best years. Then COVID hit in 2020 and couldn’t go back in. Good to see my guys again Freddy Roach & Marvin Somodio,” Wilson wrote on X.
Unless something unforeseen happens, Wilson will be the starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s Wilson’s job to lose.
“I’m really pleased with what I heard coming (out) of there with Russ,” Jeremiah said on the Rich Eisen Show. “I know there’s been a lot of talk with him and [Justin] Fields. It’s Russell Wilson’s gig. Everything I’ve been told, they’ve been impressed with how he’s thrown. Throwing with anticipation.”
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic listed Fields as a ‘loser’ in OTAs and minicamp mainly because he feels that Wilson has a chokehold on the QB1 job. That’s the general feeling from most. Wilson was leap and bounds better than Fields this spring.
