Several New Orleans Saints veterans could move on to new teams this offseason, but Alvin Kamara won’t be one of those players.
The futures of a lot of New Orleans Saints’ veterans are up in the air. Guys like Derek Carr, Cam Jordan, and Taysom Hill have all been named as potential cut or trade candidates. With the Saints entering a new era with head coach Kellen Moore, it’s unclear which players will be going into that era.
One thing that isn’t unclear is who Alvin Kamara will be playing for next. The running back has made it clear on numerous occasions that he won’t play for another team, but that hasn’t stopped his name from being floated in hypothetical trade discussions this offseason. Kamara made sure to quickly silence those discussions.
Taking to social media on Monday, the star running back sent out a vague post saying, “I know I’m not the best wit communication…..” While that could’ve been about anything in his life, fans naturally made it about sports in his comments. Multiple Denver Broncos fans responded to the post urging Kamara to come to Denver.
The veteran running back responded to one fan to make it clear that wasn’t happening. With the fan saying, “Welcome to Denver,” Kamara responded, “Welcome to Africa.” Without context, this could be a confusing response. But Saints fans who have listened to Kamara’s words throughout the years knows this means he would retire and move to Africa before he plays for another team.
The star running back explained that during this past season after singing a two-year extension with the Saints. While passionately expressing his love for New Orleans, he said he would never be able to put on another team’s uniform. That’s why when his chapter with the Saints ends, so will his NFL career.
Alvin Kamara has no interest in joining the Broncos
In defense of Broncos fans, though, Kamara to Denver does make a lot of sense. Not only is Sean Payton and a ton of other former Saints there, Darren Rizzi was the latest to join the party. Kamara was very open about wanting Rizzi to be named head coach in New Orleans, so it’s reasonable for fans to think he wouldn’t mind going to Denver. Additionally, Sean Payton has been vocal about the Broncos needing a running back with Kamara’s skillset.
Unfortunately for the Denver Broncos, they will have to find that running back elsewhere, because Kamara will either be playing for the New Orleans Saints in the coming years, or retired and chilling in Africa.
