Saints' attempt to trade for a new quarterback may come up just short at no fault of their own during 2025 NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints' draft plan remains extremely unknown. That's probably a good thing for Kellen Moore, Mickey Loomis, and co. They do not want to be predictable, with a top ten selection in round one - and three picks on day two.

Is a quarterback pick sometime early in this year's draft in the cards for the Saints? Don't be surprised if that's the case for New Orleans.

Saints could try to trade for first overall pick

There are strong murmurs that the Saints would like to pick a quarterback early in this year's draft. They have been keeping an eye on that market, after restructuring Derek Carr's contract.

There haven't been notable reports about their hopes for round one or two, but they have checked out Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart at their Pro Day. They've been connected to Shedeur Sanders since the NFL Scouting Combine as well. Juwan Johnson has a friendship with Sanders, and New Orleans was mentioned as a potential landing spot for Shedeur by his father, Deion.

Moving all the way up to first overall would be incredibly expensive for the Saints. The Tennessee Titans would have to love the package to trade out of the top overall selection and QB Cam Ward.

New Orleans could also attempt to move up for Sanders with a top five selection, too. If they believe in him as their future starter, they may not want to sit at nine and hope he falls to there.

Interest in Cam Ward from Titans

Unfortunately for the Saints' possible hopes for Cam Ward, the Titans seem to have a ton of interest in the former Hurricanes gun slinger at the QB position.

The Titans will have two opportunities to see each of Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders throw, by the way. Miami and Colorado Pro Days, and then private workouts with each.

Titans leadership are back down in Miami with Cam Ward today, the 2nd time this week. This is more than just a visit with the expected top pick; they’re doing a private workout, putting him through the paces. He’ll throw for the coaching staff and front office for about an hour. -- Easton Freeze

If Tennessee is putting on a smoke show for their interest in Ward, it is a massive, well-thought out process that is very convincing by their org. Don't believe that's the case. Nearly everything points to them really liking the upside of Ward and having him as the likely candidate for their first pick.

Not to mention, the Titans did not do basically anything in the free agency QB market. They signed Brandon Allen - that's it.

Will Levis is still on the roster, but do we really think they're signing up for another year of that experiment with Brian Callahan looking to make strides on offense. Unlikely.

For the Saints, they simply may not be able to pry the first pick away from Tennessee due to their quarterback need. That's out of the Saints' control.

Trading up for Sanders or taking him ninth overall (plus potentially drafting Jaxson Dart or another QB instead) are both potential routes they may take, too. Only time will tell, but New Orleans' intrigue in finding their heir apparent to Derek Carr is somewhat obvious at this point of the process.
