Saints' big offseason decision pays off in massive way in first win of 2024 season

Week 1 was a dream come true for the New Orleans Saints. They dominated every facet of the game against the Carolina Panthers.

The offense looked clean and efficient. The defense played with energy and grit against Bryce Young. Special teams was almost perfect, too. They had great returns and coverages on kickoffs/punts.

Kicker Blake Grupe was perfect, even hitting a 57-yard attempt early in the matchup. That was a career high for him.

Blake Grupe proves the Saints right in Week 1

The young boot had some struggles in 2023, especially in the first half of the season. He improved as he got more reps throughout the year. For a rookie, he did pretty well.

In the team's first game of 2024, Grupe hit all of his extra point attempts and went 3-3 on field goals. He looked extremely sharp. The Saints' choice to keep him as their kicker paid off immediately for 2024.

With the win, the Saints extended their Week 1 victory streak to six games in a row.
