Bleacher Report's Moe Moton recently ranked the 10 best remaining free agents under the age of 30. Two of them—wide receiver Gabe Davis and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.—have visited the New Orleans Saints in the past few weeks.
Gabe Davis
Davis met with the Saints earlier this week, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He's someone that could finally answer the Saints' prayers for a big-bodied wide receiver. Standing at 6'2" and weighing 225 lbs., Davis would be taller and weigh more than the team's current top three WRs, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Brandin Cooks. However, Moton does not see New Orleans as a landing spot for the veteran wide receiver. His potential landing spots include Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
In 2024, Davis was with the Jaguars over in Jacksonville. He previously spent 2020–2023 with the Buffalo Bills. Through his career, he has 183 receptions for 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns. Furthermore, Davis has the longest receiving touchdown in Bills franchise history, with one 98 yards long.
Asante Samuel Jr.
Samuel Jr. visited with the Saints back in May. Samuel is still waiting on medical clearance, and that is the biggest barrier to him signing anywhere. The expectation is he will have more clarity on his future in July, and the Saints can make a decision then
Samuel's instincts, coverage, and playmaking ability would quickly make him one of the top two cornerbacks on the roster if New Orleans picked him up.
Last season, he was only able to play in four games—the fewest in his career—for the Los Angeles Chargers before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury against the Broncos. He would be released by the Chargers following the season. He also underwent neck surgery back in April.
Additionally, Samuel Jr. would be reuniting with Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, who was his head coach back in Los Angeles from 2021-2023.
Samuel Jr. has played 50 games across his career, all with the Chargers. In that time, he's gathered 176 total tackles, 37 passes defended, and six interceptions.
