Saints fans are confused why promising WR A.T. Perry was a healthy scratch in Week 2

New Orleans Saints WR A.T. Perry carried no injury designation while being inactive during Week 2, and fans want to know why he didn’t play.

Why the Saints should start using WR A.T. Perry more - Canal Street Chronicles

A.T. Perry was thought to be a contributor for the New Orleans Saints following a strong end to his rookie season last year but the offense has been humming early, and he hasn’t been a part of it yet. On Sunday, when New Orleans defeated the Dallas Cowboys, Perry was a healthy scratch. This has made certain fans question what the team’s plan with him is.

An important thing to note is Perry had a hand injury that kept him out in Week 1. Although he was listed as fully healthy, it's possible the Saints didn’t want to rush him back and risk injuring it further. A hand injury is a rough one for a receiver. It’s hard to catch the ball if one of the hands is hurt. That’s the least-concerning explanation for Perry being a healthy scratch.

The good news for Perry is there’s room for him to make an impact. Even though the offense has been electric for New Orleans, the team still needs more production from their wide receivers outside of Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. The Saints have only had 14 receptions go to receivers this season, 13 of them were caught by Shaheed or Olave. This leaves Mason Tipton with the lone reception after the big two

A.T. Perry could instantly help elevate the group and give Carr another option to go to. It’s clear that Perry has the ability. He showed it off this preseason as he ended with the most receiving yards in the NFL. That production is needed for the Saints to continue this success, especially if Olave or Shaheed go down with an injury at some point this season.

Week 3 is going to be key in seeing where A.T. Perry stands. If he is listed as being a healthy inactive again, then something else is up. Until then, we wait and see how practice goes. It is vital for Perry that he gets on the field as quickly as he can to start producing.
