It wouldn't be a true offseason for the New Orleans Saints without trade rumors. That's why when the Chris Olave trade rumors started flaring up, Saints fans weren't exactly fazed.
Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything to worry about with the Olave trade rumors, at least according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. When asked if there was any truth to the Olave/Jets trade rumors, Breer responded with a simple "no".
"The Saints got inquiries from the Browns and Steelers early in the offseason, and rebuffed them, and Olave’s had a really nice offseason since. Maybe someone blows New Orleans away with an offer. But he’s not on the block, and I have a hard time thinking he’s going to be traded."
So there you have it, Saints fans. Breer thinks Olave is staying in New Orleans and that should be enough to have fans exhaling for now.
NFL insider slams the door on Chris Olave trade rumors
Olave was one of the Saints' two first-round picks in 2022 and came firing out of the gates as a rookie with over 1,000 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He followed that up with an even better season in 2023, tallying 1,123 yards and five trips into the end zone.
Unfortunately, concussions and injuries have been an issue for Olave during his career and he missed half the year in 2024 as a result. That led to him putting together the worst year of his career but he's shown what he can do and with a new quarterback coming in, having a wide receiver like Olave on the offense is critical.
It makes sense that another team, especially one like the Jets, would be interested in adding Olave given how talented he is and the fact that they also have his former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson on their roster. Pittsburgh being interested in Olave also made sense considering George Pickens was recently shipped away to Dallas so the Steelers need another weapon to pair with DK Metcalf.
There's no doubt that the Saints are a better team with Olave on board so they would be foolish to trade him away right now. Maybe next offseason is a different story but the team can cross that bridge when they get to it.
