Saints make notable move with Taysom Hill on their first unofficial depth chart for 2024 season

The New Orleans Saints unveiled their first unofficial depth chart for the 2024 season on Tuesday. There could be some shifts by Sunday, but I would not predict any wide-scale adjustments in the coming days.

Taysom Hill swaps to tight end on depth chart

According to the team's first unofficial depth chart, Hill is now a tight end. He was previously listed as a quarterback in recent years.

This move is notable simply because it leaves the other three options at QB all under that positional umbrella. Hill does not have to be a fourth designated QB option.

Instead, his unique role will have a bit more accuracy on the depth chart.

I fully expect the bulk of his reps to come at tight end/fullback with some running back snaps mixed in weekly. Klint Kubiak seems interested in a consistent workload for Taysom in different circumstances/ways to use him.

Hill is pumped for his unique, new role in the offense. Many folks thought his usage was already a bit mind-boggling, but it sounds like Kubiak will push the envelope with him even further.

Last year, his production was extremely spotty. Some weeks, he looked like a key contributor. Other weeks, Pete Carmichael Jr. seemingly forgot Hill was on the roster.

Saints reportedly name team captains

The Saints will have eight captains for the 2024 season, according to Mike Triplett.

  • Cameron Jordan
  • Demario Davis
  • Tyrann Mathieu
  • Derek Carr
  • Erik McCoy
  • J.T. Gray
  • Taysom Hill
  • Zach Wood

Hill replaced veteran offensive lineman Ryan Ramczyk as a captain. Ramczyk will miss the entire season with a degenerative knee injury.

The captains are picked by the roster. Players decide who they nominate for the roles. It's a legitimate honor for all of them.
