The 2025 NFL Draft continues to stir up reports, rumors, and expectations for every team around the NFL. For the New Orleans Saints, they have their eyers on this quarterback class, especially following the unknown on Derek Carr's future with the team.
Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart and Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders are both generating plenty for buzz for the Saints. New Orleans was the favorite to draft Sanders for a couple of weeks, but that has shifted on both FanDuel and DraftKings Sportsbooks.
The Saints may surprise plenty of folks with their preference between those two prospects, according to one well-known NFL Draft analyst.
In a recent podcast episode from Todd McShay, he discussed the Saints' interest in the different QB prospects expected to go in round one or two. He leans towards the idea the New Orleans prefers Dart over Sanders.
"They like Jaxson Dart over Shedeur. They actually like Jaxson Dart a lot...
It's not Shedeur to New Orleans, period. It's not at nine, and it's not at forty."
-- Todd McShay
This sentiment has been foreshadowed over the past week. Adam Schefter recently mentioned that he did not like chances that Sanders goes in the top five or at the ninth overall pick. He sees a potential fall for the Buffaloes quarterback, too.
Regardless, the Saints are nearly forced to take a QB with notable capital in this draft, simply due to their roster situation at the position.
This is a franchise starving for a quarterback. And that has very little, if any, to do with the news that Derek Carr's 2025 season is in jeopardy. Drew Brees and Sean Payton are long gone — and so is the glow of the franchise's lone Super Bowl win in 2010.
A notable NFL Draft trend would support a lack of strong interest in Sanders from New Orleans as well. He did not have a top-30 visit or private workout with the Saints ahead of this year's draft.
This sort of clarification may carve out what Kellen Moore is seeing as the smartest route for the future of the Saints.
If Carr is not in the fold next season, Spencer Rattler is the projected starter at QB for the Saints. It is tough to see them leaving this year's draft without another option to compete with him, with that in mind.
Dart currently feels like the most likely option to add to their QB room based off these reports at the moment, but that could involve a trade up from their 40th selection, if they do not pick him at nine.
