With the New Orleans Saints eliminated from playoff contention, they're headed towards a lengthy rebuild. There's lots of questions regarding the future in New Orleans, especially with their extremely concerning cap space situation. The Saints are expected to be $63 million over the cap limit, so they definitely aren't going to be big players for anybody in free agency.
That's why their attention to the draft will be crucial, as New Orleans needs to stockpile on tons of talent to build this franchise from the ground up again. Nate Tice and Charles McDonals of Yahoo Sports released their recent mock draft, having the Saints select Georgia safety Malaki Starks with the No.10 pick.
The Saints can’t be picky at this point in their roster building journey. They’ll need help just about everywhere as they try to rebuild while staying cap compliant. Starks is a strong player to add on the backend of their defense who can play any safety position.
As they alluded to, the Saints can't be picky about which talent falls to them in April. Starks would be a perfect complement to Tyrann Mathieu on the backend. Starks had 73 tackles, three passes defended and one interception for the Bulldogs in 2024. In three seasons at Georgia, he compiled 193 tackles, 17 passes defended six interceptions and six tackles for a loss.
