There's no shortage of questions when it comes to parts of the New Orleans Saints roster in 2025. At the helm, their quarterback position is a wonder for many fans and analysts around the NFL world.
Rookie Tyler Shough is locked into a QB competition with Spencer Rattler Aand Jake Haener. Shough was the 40th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Kellen Moore had gleaming reviews for Shough, following the draft. He's also given the QB options
Tyler Shough impresses at practice again
The hype for Shough continues to build. His arm talent, a trait that Moore has pointed out for him already, has started to shine. He is throwing off platform well and even taking some reps as a rusher with the ball in his hands.
The Saints would clearly use his mobility and stature as weapons for their offense. If Shough can keep stacking impressive days during OTAs and transition those into training camp and the preseason, he could lock down the starting role.
- You want to see growth from QBs in a session like this and that was evident for Tyler Shough. He had two great deep throws during 7 on 7, hitting Bub Means and Donovan Peoples-Jones. The Means throw, in particular, was a “wow”

Shough has regularly pushed the ball downfield with success so far in practices for New Orleans. He had an awesome completion to tight end Juwan Johnson earlier this week, too.
Spencer Rattler remains consistent
Rattler had a rollercoaster of a season last year. He showed flashes of nice mobility and exciting arm talent, but his decision-making was a clear weakness, along with his pocket awareness. This season, Kellen Moore and his staff are working to find more consistency from Rattler.
We will see how this battle shakes out. Rattler is not going to give up or secede any sort of opportunities. It is worth noting that he is also getting plenty of first-team reps still, as he and Shough rotate in that capacity.
