There was plenty of discussion regarding Kendre Miller over the past few weeks. He was placed on injured reserve just before the firing of former head coach Dennis Allen. Members of the organization, including staff and players disagreed with that choice.
Per the source, the original plan for the running back, who “tweaked” his hamstring against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, was to proceed with caution and keep him out of last week’s Carolina Panthers matchup but ultimately have him return in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons. That would have put Miller back on the field this upcoming weekend.
The back was instead placed on Injured Reserve, sparking frustration among the coaching staff who was confused as to why that would be necessary for such a minor injury. Apparently former Head Coach Dennis Allen “had a lot to do with it.” One source suggests a “lack of trust” in Miller’s ability to stay healthy may have been the driving force of Allen’s motivation.

Miller was simply in Allen's doghouse - it seems. That cost him some playing time over the last month, but he's back and healthy for the Saints now.
Kendre Miller is back
The young running back showed why New Orleans has been excited for his return recently during their Week 14 win over the Giants.
His strength, contact balance, and effort showed up in a massive way. helping New Orleans secure a victory.
Darren Rizzi previewed this sort of talent from Miller last week. He also confirmed that the young RB could have played sooner than last week, if he had not been placed on IR before Allen's firing.
That's a real shame for a playmaker who could have helped the Saints offense during that time frame.
“Kendre Miller’s a talented football player. There’s no one that’s gonna sit here and ever deny that.”
“You’ve seen that when he’s been active and healthy, that he’s a guy that can produce for the team. He’s a really good change of pace back, he brings another dimension to it.”
“His thing is gonna be consistency and staying healthy.”
-- Rizzi on Kendre Miller
Overall, it is yet another rough look for Allen. The former HC clearly held his personal emotions and feelings about individuals over the wellbeing of the entire team.
The decision to place Miller on the shelf, with New Orleans seeking more offensive talent, is a massive black eye on the end of his tumultuous tenure as the Saints head coach.
Hopefully, the running back will continue to be an important piece of the pie in New Orleans. He deserves the opportunity, undoubtedly.
