Rams hold off Saints to surge forward in playoff race

The New Orleans Saints have been surprisingly active in the early stages of free agency, trading for Davon Godchaux, signing Justin Reid, and re-signing key veterans like Chase Young and Juwan Johnson. However, the team doesn’t appear to be done yet, which is good, because New Orleans still has several needs.

One of those needs is wide receiver. The Saints have two talented young wideouts in Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, but not much after that. That’s why the team needs to be active in free agency or the draft, possibly both, to find more receiver help.

Apparently, New Orleans already has its eyes on a veteran receiver that could help the team out. NFL insider, Dianna Russini, on a recent episode of her podcast with Chase Daniel, Scoop City, detailed the market for veteran receiver Cooper Kupp. Among several teams, Russini revealed the Saints are one franchise with their eyes on him.

Saints believed to have their eyes on Cooper Kupp

Russini explained that teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, and Saints have been looking into Kupp, while teams that many expected to be interested, like the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans, haven’t shown much interest. It has also since been reported that the Dallas Cowboys are making a push for Kupp.

On Friday, Russini reported that the veteran receiver’s asking price has been a hold-up for some of the interested teams.

While Kupp is slowing down, he has been a really good receiver in the league for several years. In 2021, he won the triple crown, catching 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, he’s been limited to just 12 games in each of his last two seasons, going a little over 700 receiving yards in both.

Turning 32 this offseason, he won’t be the 2021 version of Cooper Kupp, but he could still bring a lot to a team like the New Orleans Saints.
