Jersey number swaps are always an intriguing piece of the NFL offseason. For the New Orleans Saints, one of their young offensive weapons has made a change to his appearance for the upcoming season in black and gold.
Saints RB Kendre Miller changes jersey number
Saints running back Kendre Miller has reportedly swapped to jersey number five. Last season, Miller wore number 25. Will Harris is the last player to wear number five for the Saints.
The most well-known Saints player to dawn number five in recent years was quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater became a fan favorite in New Orleans for his play after Drew Brees was injured.
The veteran QB also had an infectious, humble personality that New Orleans absolutely latched onto during Bridewater's time in black and gold. Bridgewater played in nine games for the Saints during the 2019 season, going 5-0 in his starts.
Kendre Miller's season will be filled with pressure
As for Miller, this is a massive season for him. He has dealt with a plethora of injuries so far in his pro career, and his availability has threatened his potential role going forward. With a new offensive staff, Miller will certainly have to earn his snaps this season and possibly beyond for New Orleans.
Devin Neal is a rookie option, who could absolutely make a push to be Alvin Kamara's backup. Neal was an incredibly productive rusher in CFB. He has impressive elusiveness with a heavier build than you would expect.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire is also an option to compete for that role on New Orleans' offense. He was with the Saints to finish last season and impressed the coaching staff.
All in all, we will see how Miller looks this season if he can win the backup RB job for Kellen Moore's offense.
