Saints Set for a Possible Week 5 Rookie QB Matchup

We could see a rookie QB showdown during the Saints' Week 5 matchup.

The New Orleans Saints are set to host the New York Giants for a Week 5 matchup.

As schedule leaks occur throughout the day, some of the most interesting news will be when New Orleans will face the top rookies of the 2025 NFL Draft class.

When it was revealed the Saints would host the Giants for a Week 5 matchup, my immediate first thought was the potential for a rookie quarterback showdown. New York drafted Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart in the first round and New Orleans took the next signal-caller off the board with the 40th overall pick.

While neither quarterback has won the starting job yet—and Dart is not slated to compete for the starting job—there is potential for injuries or starters being benched. The Giants signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal earlier in the offseason and the Saints are amidst a quarterback battle between Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener.

Shough is the current favorite to win the starting job for New Orleans and despite Dart not currently being the starter, the Giants have a tough four-game stretch to start the season. If New York were to play poorly in this time, a change at quarterback can happen.

Jaxson Dart isn't the only interesting prospect the Saints could face in their Week 5 matchup. Penn State's Abdul Carter was the third overall selection to the Giants and will get early action against the black and gold. Depending on how New Orleans decides to set their offensive line alignment, this may be a possible first-round pick versus first-round pick matchup.

The Saints drafted tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. with the ninth overall pick. While Banks has been tested on various positions throughout the offensive line, he played tackle at Texas and may win a starting spot in the same position with New Orleans.

The Week 5 matchup will also see a homecoming for former Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo. New Orleans' former third-round pick crafted a good career early on with the Saints and earned a three-year $54 Million contract with the Giants.

Despite being a battle between two bottom-10 teams from a season ago, the New Orleans Saints vs. New York Giants Week 5 matchup will have plenty to offer. From possible rookie quarterback showdowns to a revenge game, this will be a matchup to tune in to.
