A new redesign is on its way for New Orleans.
The New Orleans Saints are set to unveil a new alternate helmet design on July 9th, according to their Twitter/X account.
The Saints have been one of the few teams rumored to reveal new helmets thanks to the NFL's new rule. In 2024, the league approved a uniform rule change that granted NFL teams access to a third alternative helmet design. Teams will be available to use these in 2025.
These helmets can only be worn with alternate uniforms for teams such as color rush and classic. If a helmet is to be paired with a classic uniform, the colors and design must be historically compatible.
All use of alternate helmets is subject to the following requirements according to the NFL's website:
- Clubs must obtain an entire new set of alternate color helmets for all players
- Alternate color helmets must be the same make, model, and size as the applicable player's
primary helmet - Alternate color helmets must be made available to all players at the start of training camp
and should be fit at the same time as the primary helmet - Alternate color helmets must be worn in practice at a minimum during the week leading
up to the game in which they will be used.
The Saints unveiled a black alternate helmet for the 2022 season and have worn it just four times, with each resulting in a loss. The helmet was not one loved by the fans, and with its winless history, some are asking for New Orleans to ditch the three-year-old alternate look.
Many fans have called for the Saints to introduce a white helmet and a whiteout uniform. The team's color rush uniforms are often praised as one of the better alternate uniforms in the league, and a possible complementary white helmet may make the uniform set even better.
On top of the Saints announcing a new helmet design, there have been rumors floating around about a new possible alternate uniform unveiling in late July. If the Saints opt to reveal a new uniform, it would replace either their classic throwbacks or their famous color rush.
