Everyone, including New Orleans Saints players were shocked to see the team draft Tyler Shough with the 40th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, experts promised an unpredictable and chaotic draft, and through two days, the draft delivered on that promise. The first three rounds kept everyone intrigued, and that remains the case ahead of day three, when the final four rounds will take place.
One of the wild moments that shook everything up came when the New Orleans Saints made a pick in the second round at No. 40. The Saints were expected to take a quarterback, and they did, drafting Louisville’s Tyler Shough. However, no one, outside of insiders, expected Shough to be the quarterback chosen.
New Orleans received immediate criticism from fans, and even Saints players let their shock slip out on social media. One of those players was franchise legend Cam Jordan, who reacted in a way that essentially threw some shade at his new quarterback.
After Shedeur Sanders fell out of the second round, the veteran defender took to social media to ask what if New Orleans pulled off a two quarterback draft like Washington did back in 2012 with Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins.
Jordan could have just been bored, and decided to throw a tweet out about the most bizarre NFL story right now, but a lot of people immediately interpreted this as a subtle shot at Shough— or at least a way to say he preferred Sanders. Not many players would float the idea of drafting another quarterback if they believe in the one who was just selected.
But, if New Orleans wants to explore Jordan’s hypothetical, they still have the opportunity, because Sanders remains on the board entering day three. Saints head coach Kellen Moore expressed the team was high on Sanders but ultimately decided Shough was the better pick. Even if it was a tough decision between the two, New Orleans is unlikely to circle back and select Shedeur Sanders.
