Saints take a massive risk on a rookie QB in latest 2025 NFL mock draft

The New Orleans Saints have a lot of issues. The upcoming NFL Draft won't solve nearly all of them, but they must plug holes along their roster. With a top ten pick, they'll have every opportunity to do exactly that.

Saints take a massive risk on a rookie QB in latest 2025 NFL mock draft

Destin Adams of A to Z Sports unveiled his latest first round 2025 NFL mock draft on Monday.

Saints take a chance at QB

10. New Orleans Saints: Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama

Not only is there a third QB in the first round, but a third in the top 10. The Saints QB dilemma is a major issue, and until they figure it out, they are going to struggle to find any real identity as a franchise. This pick would be a risk for sure, but Alabama's Jalen Milore has a skill set multiple teams in the NFL are going to be intrigued by. And if the Saints can get a new offensive staff in place that they trust to develop his game, it could be the beginning of a successful new era in Saints history.

Milroe is widely believed to be a QB prospect that should not go in round one. He's a great athlete and has shown upside in the passing game at times, but inconsistency heavily influenced his stock this season with the Crimson Tide.

Jalen Milroe is the x-factor of this draft class, if he enters. His mental processing and throwing motion need work for him to reach his ceiling as a star NFL quarterback. However, Milroe avoids turnovers and plays to his strengths well enough to believe he can be functional while those things improve. He's so explosive as a power runner and downfield thrower that there's reason to believe a strong structure can ease him into an ideal developmental path. It's easy to justify taking Milroe early because his tools are so good and there's so much room to continue growing.

The Alabama starter has exciting potential that an NFL team could look to mold.

Taking that sort of swing for New Orleans in round one is a huge gamble, though. One that I don't think they can afford to take, considering the rest of the aging roster.

Not to mention, Derek Carr could remain in New Orleans in 2025. If that's the case, taking a QB in round one seems even less likely.

Instead, you would probably see the new head coach spend a year with the veteran starter to see what the future could hold. Then, in 2026, the new HC could make his ultimate decision at the QB spot going forward.

Regardless, Milroe is quite the dart throw that will probably be taken earlier than he needs to be due to team needs and his unique athletic skillset.
