The New Orleans Saints won't have a lack of decisions to make along their roster this offseason. Letting veterans walk. Elevating young talent. Attempting to sign some depth, once they make difficult salary cap moves.
Chase Young remains an intriguing option around the NFL for any defensive line. He is clearly talented, but his overall production has not matched up to his potential in recent seasons.
Will Young have interest in going back to New Orleans this offseason? You cannot rule that out, yet.
Chase Young may return to Saints
According to Jeremy Fowler, Young is open to coming back to the Saints. That door remains open.
Young is open to a return to New Orleans, where he just played out a one-year deal -- though a different defense could generate more sack opportunities for him. He might opt for stability over last year's prove-it-deal status coming off a serious neck injury. -- ESPN
This, of course, comes down to interest from New Orleans as well.
The pass rush was inept for most of this past season, and Young's inconsistency was a piece of that. He did compile pressures consistently, but he and Carl Granderson struggled to finish the job in the backfield to pick up sacks on the quarterback.
Young is a former first-round selection and possesses plenty of raw ability. That being said, giving him a multi-year deal could hold plenty of risk for any team that chooses that route this offseason.
With the Saints' salary cap situation, it is tough to see an outcome where he chooses to return to New Orleans, rather than joining a better team with more money to offer him.
We will see how it shakes out between the pass rusher and the Saints during free agency.
