The New Orleans Saints are fresh off their preseason action, but their matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers did not come without a roster move with surprising timing. The black and gold have moved on from a young wide receiver.
Saints waive WR Chris Tyree due to injury
According to Nick Underhill, the Saints waived wideout Chris Tyree with an injury designation. This announcement on social media came right about at halftime between Los Angeles and New Orleans. Tyree was dealing with an injury, so he was not expected to play against the Bolts.
Tyree did, however, warm up in street clothes ahead of the game. He was spending time with his teammates, but he was not going to get any game action. Getting Tyree reps simply was not in the team's plan.
Tyree will go on injured reserve now. New Orleans could also choose to release him with an injury settlement that would pay a portion of his salary. The Saints wide receiver room needs depth to step up, but now, Tyree is no longer in the mix to grab a roster spot.
Unfortunately, this injury prevented Tyree from ever truly having a shot at making the roster for the regular season. It was always going to be an uphill climb, though.
Tyree's performance at training camp has not made waves, so it was unlikely he would play a role for the offense this season, anyway. That being said, the timing of this decision is a tough blow for the young wide receiver. We will see if he can find another route to making a roster sometime in the future.
