San Francisco 49ers not sweating over extending George Kittle, team believes his deal is 'not pressing need' at the moment

George Kittle has for the longest time been the highest-paid tight end in the NFL until recently, when the Kansas City Chiefs offered the bag to Travis Kelce . The San Francisco 49ers tight end is presently in the fourth year of his five-year contract worth $75 million. Despite him being so close to the end of his contract, GM John Lynch is not rushing to offer him an extension.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that presently, the San Francisco 49ers do not feel a sense of urgency to offer the tight end a deal as they are looking to sort the negotiations out with Brandon Aiyuk for the moment.

This is not a pressing need, but I was told that yeah, this is a player who might need a new contract eventually or even this offseason, because he's got two years left, had he not had the core muscle surgery. Jeremy Fowler said via SportsCenter

His sources have revealed that the team will offer Kittle another extension when his current deal is close to ending.

He is tentatively coming back from an injury but he was the only tight end in the league with a 1000-yard season. Still a big part of what they do, so they might have to pay him. A lot of major decisions coming. Jeremy Fowler added

The 49ers need to be wise in terms of their spending, currently; the team has to find the right amount that would convince Brandon Aiyuk to stay in the Bay Area. The real challenge begins in 2025 and after when Deebo Samuel and George Kittle will be close to hitting free agency.

George Kittle intends to play his entire career out for the San Francisco 49ers

There is a direct relation between Kittle reaching 1,000 yards and the 49ers making the Super Bowl. In 2019, when he had over 1,000 yards, the team made it to the big game. He did not have a similar season until this year, when co-incidentally the 49ers made it all the way to the Super Bowl yet again.

The tight end had 65 receptions for 1,020 yards and 6 touchdowns. The tight end is a pivotal part of the 49ers offense. Despite being a star and arguably one of the greatest tight ends to play the game, he is not a selfish player. George Kittle understands the importance of doing his part to contribute to the overall team success.

The 49ers have multiple stars on offense such as Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, to be on the same offense and not have any conflicts with respect to who gets the most touches is a blessing for this team. The only hump that this team has to get over is to close the deal by winning a Super Bowl. Will the 49ers be able to pull it off this season? Niners fans will have to wait and watch!
