San Francisco 49ers Sign All-American, Ex-Division Rival

The revolving door that is the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver room has gotten a lot of action this week.

San Francisco 49ers Sign All-American, Ex-Division Rival

They’ve already cut ties with two wide receivers, Quintez Cephus and Equanimeous St. Brown, just a little over a week after each of them signed.

But amidst injury concerns with so many receivers, including most recently with star wideout Jauan Jennings, the 49ers haven’t stopped adding wideouts to compete for spots on the roster.

On Thursday July 31, 2025, the 49ers announced that they signed WR Andy Isabella. Isabella, 28, was one of four players that the 49ers added.

Isabella Is Experienced And Accomplished

Andy Isabella is a name that many football fans are familiar with.

Isabella was a college football superstar with UMass. After he was recruited as a running back, he converted to wide receiver his sophomore year in 2016.

He had a storied four years with the minutemen, hauling in 231 receptions for 3,526 total yards and 30 touchdowns during his career.

His senior season in 2018 was as epic as it gets. He hauled in 102 catches for a whopping 1,698 yards. His yard total led all of Division I. He also had 13 touchdown catches.

He was named a first team All-American and was even a finalist for the 2018 Fred Belitnikoff Award, given annually to the best receiver in college football. Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy was ultimately the winner that season.

That superstar season caught the attention of NFL scouts, and Isabella was drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, 62nd overall by the Arizona Cardinals.

Isabella had a notable role in his first two seasons in Arizona, but never carved out the same starring role that he had in college.

He’s bounced around the NFL since, playing with the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and now the 49ers. He even had a stint with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL.

His career totals across 5 NFL seasons are 33 catches for 447 yards and 3 touchdowns.

49ers Signed Another Wide Receiver

Andy Isabella wasn’t the only wide receiver that the 49ers signed on Thursday July 31, 2025. San Francisco also picked up WR Marquez Callaway.

Callaway, 27, is a former University of Tennessee wideout that signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2020.

Callaway actually had a sizable role with the Saints as recently as 2021. That season, he had 46 catches for 698 yards and 6 touchdowns.

After becoming a free agent in 2023, Callaway has garnered interest from tons of teams around the NFL. But he’s never really stuck with one team. He’s had stints with the Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Saints two more times.

The 49ers also signed QB Carter Bradley and RB Ameer Abdullah on Thursday July 31.

Abdullah is also a notable name to football fans. The former University of Nebraska star has been in the NFL for 10 seasons, most famously with the Detroit Lions and Las Vegas Raiders.

Abdullah has 1,994 total rushing yards and 8 touchdown receptions in his NFL career.

What do you think of the recent signings, 49ers fans?
