The Philadelphia Eagles had a chance to win the game, but Nick Sirianni's decision to throw the ball to Saquon Barkley, rather than run it, would come back to bite them.
The Eagles had the ball at Atlanta's 10-yard line on third down with under two minutes remaining. The Falcons had zero timeouts left.
Jalen Hurts targeted Barkley, who dropped it and the clock stopped. Rather than go for it, the Eagles opted to kick a field goal, which put them up 21-15.
Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins then marched his team down for a game-winning 70-yard touchdown drive.
“It definitely sucks. Any loss sucks, but the game came down to a few plays,” Barkley said of his dropped pass after the game. “But it hurts a little more when you’re the one making a mistake on that play."
Barkley finished the night with 22 carries for 95 yards and four catches for 21 yards.
His Week 2 performance looked a lot different from the three-touchdown game he had in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.
“I let my team down today," Barkley added. "Shouldn’t have put the defense in that position. Make that catch and the game is over.”
