Serena Williams Makes a Stunning Return to the Tennis Practice Courts

With just over a month to go before the US Open, Serena Williams took to the practice tennis court to show a glimpse of her skillful movement and forehand. The former World No.1 has not played a competitive match since the 2022 Grand Slam event at Flushing Meadows. She has now posted a clip on social media of her playing on a tennis court.

Williams, who is set to turn 44 in September, ended her professional career at the 2022 US Open after losing to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic. It marked the end of an era in women’s tennis after she had dominated the circuit for over a decade. She claimed a total of 73 tour-level singles titles, the second-highest number of titles in the Open Era.

She also claimed 23 singles Grand Slam and 14 major doubles titles. She’s the only player to win a Career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. Also, she was a constant at the top of the WTA rankings. After becoming the World No.1 for the first time in her career in July 2002, she held the position for 319 weeks.

Recently, Williams posted a video of her training on the court on Instagram. In the video shared by the 23-time Grand Slam champion, the chorus from Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E” could be heard in the background. She then captioned it with two-letter words:

Still Serena

Williams won the US Open six times in her career. She last lifted the prestigious Grand Slam in 2014 after winning it for the third consecutive year in New York. The 43-year-old last reached the final of the US Open in 2018 before losing to Naomi Osaka in straight sets. But the match remains one of the most controversial finals at the US Open.

Williams first received a coaching violation after the umpire caught Patrick Mouratoglou giving hand gestures to her during the match. Also, in the second set, a penalty point was awarded to her after she smashed her racket angrily on the court. She then received a game penalty for calling Carlos Ramos a “thief”.

Serena Williams inducted into the US Olympics and Paralympics Hall of Fame

Serena Williams was recently inducted into the U.S. Olympics and Paralympic Hall of Fame Class of 2025. The 43-year-old and her sister Venus Williams won doubles gold in Australian (2000), Beijing (2008) and London (2012). She also won the singles gold title in London after beating Maria Sharapova in straight sets in the final.

She took to Instagram to reveal the gold medals, while expressing her appreciation for the induction into the Hall of Fame. She revealed that she was proud of everything she achieved in the sport:

What an incredible honor to be inducted into the #TeamUSAHOF ! It’s been a journey filled with hard work, grit, and passion. I’m so proud of everything I’ve poured into this sport, and I’m beyond grateful for all the love and support along the way. This moment means the world. Thank you.

Since retiring from tennis, Serena Williams has focused more on her family and business ventures. She has two daughters with her husband Alexis Ohanian. Their first daughter, Olympia, was born in September 2017. That same year, she won her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open. She welcomed her second daughter, Adria River, who was born in August 2023.
