"I've seen enough. I'm calling it a wrap," Colin Cowherd says. "By a landslide, Shedeur Sanders should be starting'' for the Cleveland Browns.
In Colin Cowherd's line of work, it's called "doing a bit.''
And the FS1 personality has latched on to a doozy here.
Word has gotten out that Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders had a good day of practice at OTAs this week in an interesting four-man quarterback competition with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
It's clear that the rookie fifth-round pick Shedeur is trying to block out the noise and focus on football. Wednesday at practice, he shined in team drills as the most efficient quarterback.
But the noise is here.
ESPN Cleveland took to social media by fishing for reactions with a graphic that compares the four QBs statistics from practice.
There is, in the real football world, almost no such thing as "OTA passing stats.'' But here we are ...
Sanders seemingly threw the ball well. His 7-for-9 showing was the best completion percentage in the group and he led the way with three touchdowns.
Hurrah!
This could mean nothing.
Or ...
This could mean that Sanders won't remain fourth-string for long.
But to Cowherd? It means the QB competition is over.
On his Thursday show, Cowherd called Sanders the "most efficient and most productive with the fewest reps" among Cleveland's quarterbacks. The host believes the 23-year-old has already won the battle.
"I've seen enough. I'm calling it a wrap," Cowherd said. "The Herd newsroom is calling it in Ohio. By a landslide, Shedeur Sanders should be starting."
Wait a minute.
Cowherd has "seen'' ... what, exactly?
The Browns are on the field in Ohio.
Cowherd is in a studio in Los Angeles.
He's "seen'' nothing ... except a method toward grabbing a couple of ratings points by "doing a bit'' that we bet he will utilize all season long.
