‘Sheriff Country’ Star Confirms Episode Count for Highly-Anticipated ‘Fire Country’ Spin-Off

As pretty much everyone prepares for the return of the explosive procedural, Fire Country, there’s also that fervent anticipation for its first spin-off, Sheriff Country. While the former is set to make a comeback this fall, the latter airs for the first time on Friday, October 17, with Morena Baccarin in the lead. Fans may agree that a lot has already been revealed about the new show, which is being filmed in Toronto. However, Baccarin has one more important detail to share ahead of its premiere.

Speaking as a guest on the July 22 episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast Baccarin revealed the episode count for her new show, which she is “cautiously optimistic” about. The actress, who hasn’t done network TV projects since her involvement in Fox’s superhero series Gotham, said Sheriff Country’s debut run will consist of twenty episodes, which, according to her, is “really tough on everybody, but I’m cautiously optimistic; I’m really excited about the series.”

Sheriff Country was first proposed as a potential spin-off to Fire Country on January 23, 2024, which, at the time, was set to be introduced via a back-door pilot episode in Season 2, with Baccarin attached to lead. The episode titled "Alert the Sheriff" introduced the headliner’s character, Edgewater County Sheriff's Sergeant Mickey Fox. Later in May that year, it received a straight-to-series order, with CBS Studios joining the production of the series and was later given its official title.

Why Is ‘Sheriff Country’ Filming So Far From ‘Fire Country’

On the podcast, Baccarin also explained why Sheriff Country is being filmed so far from Fire Country’s location, though both are within Canada. The firefighter series films in Vancouver, which is over 2,000 miles away from its spin-off in Toronto. After initially being told that production would progress on Sheriff Country in Vancouver, the TV star knew it could never work as she lives in New York City (a five-hour flight from Vancouver) with her family, including three young kids. It was a no-brainer for her, and fortunately, plans changed to her advantage. The higher-ups “discussed it among themselves,” leading them to eventually agree to film the drama series in Toronto, which is just an "hour-and-change" from NYC by flight, thereby allowing Baccarin to return home every weekend. “I was shocked,” the Deadpool star admitted, “because you know how these negotiations go.”
