Shocking Lions trade proposal offers Detroit help at wide receiver

All of the conversation surrounding the Detroit Lions ahead of the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline has been about the team acquiring an edge rusher, and rightly so.

Former Bengals WR Tyler Boyd reportedly lands with Titans on 1-year deal worth up to $4.5M - Yahoo Sports

After all, the Lions have lost both of their top edge rushers in Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport to season-ending injuries, which will hurt their chances of making the Super Bowl run the team is most certainly capable of.

But one NFL analyst has a different idea for the Lions ahead of the deadline that does on include an edge rusher. Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame proposes a trade between Detroit and the Tennessee Titans that sends wide receiver Tyler Boyd to Motown in exchange for a seventh-round pick.

"Tennessee hoped to surprise this year, but it didn’t happen with shabby quarterback play and a crush of injuries," Verderame wrote. "With that in mind, the Titans ought to move Boyd, who is 30 years old and slated for free agency. While Detroit has ample weaponry, Boyd is an experienced hand in the slot who gives Jared Goff another trustworthy target."

The Lions adding a wide receiver became more possible recently after breakout wide receiver Jameson Williams was discovered to have a run-in with police earlier this month that nearly led to his arrest. As a result, there is a fear that Williams may possibly face discipline from the league.

Boyd is in the midst of a rough season, with 184 scoreless yards over seven games. But that's hardly his fault, as the Titans' offense has been a dysfunctional mess, mostly thanks to lackluster play from second-year quarterback Will Levis.

The problem with adding Boyd is that he's almost exclusively a slot receiver, and lest we forget, that the Lions have one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Amon-Ra St. Brown manning that spot.

If the Lions wanted to add some insurance for Williams, they'd be better suited with a traditional boundary receiver, and more specifically, someone who can rip off the big plays Williams can.

We wouldn't anticipate Detroit adding a wide receiver unless Williams is going to face another suspension, something that has yet to be determine. And, if they do, it's unlikely to be Boyd.
