The Green Bay Packers will have a total of eight picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. There is still a chance that Green Bay could accumulate more draft capital before the 2025 NFL Draft begins.
Green Bay could trade cornerback Jaire Alexander to another NFL team before it begins. Also, another name that could be traded for the Packers before the draft is linebacker Quay Walker. Walker struggled at times for Green Bay during the 2024 NFL season. Some fans wanted him to be benched more often, but linebacker Edgerrin Cooper took over as one of the top linebackers on the team.
Dairylandexpress.com Writer Brian Sampson Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Should Talk About Trading Quay Walker Before 2025 NFL Draft
Dairylandexpress.com writer Brian Sampson thinks that Walker should be put on the trade block before the 2025 NFL Draft begins. Sampson said,
“Packers Should Dangle Quay Walker in Trade Talks Before Draft.
Walker was taken 22nd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft—a head-scratcher at the time, considering it was a non-premium position and Walker entered the league with some serious question marks about his instincts and processing.
Physically, he’s the prototype. He posted a 9.63 Relative Athletic Score, including a 4.52-second 40-yard dash—elite speed for a linebacker. On paper, he looked like a future sideline-to-sideline menace. But three seasons in, the results haven’t matched the résumé.
The Green Bay Packers hold eight picks heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, but general manager Brian Gutekunst is likely itching for more. The draft board is deep in certain areas, and with several roster holes to fill, Gutekunst may need to get creative to maximize his chances of addressing them all.
The Packers currently own one pick in each of the first seven rounds, plus a compensatory pick in the seventh. That’s a solid starting point—but for a team with playoff ambitions and needs across the board, it might not be enough.
Wide receiver, offensive line, defensive end, defensive tackle, and cornerback all stand out as positions that need attention. If Green Bay wants to touch on all those spots and add meaningful depth, they’ll need more swings at the plate.
One option could be moving on from a former first-round pick who hasn’t quite lived up to expectations: linebacker Quay Walker.”
The interesting thing is that what would the Packers fetch back in return for Walker? A fourth or a fifth-round pick at best? Should general manager Brian Gutekunst trade him for the sake of making a move or should they hold onto him? Walker is 24 years old and a former Georgia Bulldogs football player.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Packers, he recorded 102 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. For now, Walker is projected to be one of the starting linebackers for the 2025 season for Green Bay. Cooper and Isaiah McDuffie would be projected to be other starting linebackers for now.
Kristian Welch and Ty’Ron Hopper are projected to be the other linebackers on the roster for now. There is a chance in the draft that Green Bay may draft a linebacker. They have a lot of holes on defense. However, Gutekunst may not be able to afford to trade away Walker after all because they may not have enough bodies at the position. Trading away Walker might make Green Bay weaker at the position and this position isn’t deep to begin with also.
