Silver lining exists for Browns fans who aren’t happy to see Nick Chubb moving on from Cleveland

The time has finally come—running back Nick Chubb is moving on from the Cleveland Browns and will be playing for another NFL team.

It will take some getting used to, but Chubb is now a member of the Houston Texans, where he’ll share the backfield with former Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon.

Chubb rushed for 6,843 yards over seven seasons with the Browns, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark in four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022. For Browns fans who hate to see him go, there’s a small silver lining: Cleveland won’t face the Texans in 2025 unless both teams make the playoffs and meet there. So, barring that scenario, the Browns won’t have to play against Chubb next season.

The Nick Chubb Departure Made Sense for the Browns

Running backs typically don’t have the longevity of other positions, and after suffering season-ending injuries in back-to-back years, the timing was right for Chubb to get a fresh start. The Browns aren’t expected to be contenders in 2025, while Houston offers Chubb a better chance at a playoff run and possibly even a deep postseason push.

As Cleveland enters a mild rebuild and looks to refresh certain parts of the roster, getting younger at running back was the logical move. Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson represent the future of the backfield, while Jerome Ford is likely to stick around for at least another season. Judkins and Sampson both bring an explosive element to the offense that should excite fans.

Chubb didn’t look like the same player last season after returning from a major knee injury, and it’s difficult to imagine him regaining his peak form. However, in Houston, he’ll have the opportunity to serve as a complementary piece in the Texans’ offense and show that he can still stay healthy and produce.

Browns fans will surely continue to cheer for Chubb in 2025—and fortunately for them, they won’t have to see him lining up against Cleveland, at least for now.
